SMY’s Little Yogi’s Breathing Exercise

Guide your children into gentle and full breathing with this easy
to follow exercise!
Encourage them to explore their inner world and imagination.
Allow a few minutes a day without the distraction of external
stimulation (eg. tv, computers, phones and games) to improve focus, lung capacity and wellness.

Encourage full breathing and awareness
  1. Sit in a comfortable position with legs crossed and the back and neck straight.
  2. Place your hands on your thighs and turn palms upright. Close your eyes.
  3. (Can also be practiced by lying down on back)
  4. Inhale slowing to the count of five (5), hold to the count of five (5), breath out to the count of five (5). Repeat 10-15 breaths.
  5. Allow your body to relax and visualize yourself surrounded by the beauty of nature. Ahhh!  
  6. Stay for 3 to 5 minutes, encourage them to explore their inner world (plants, animals, scenery) and focus on breathing.
  7. Slowly begin to wiggle your fingers and allow your eyes to open. Practice for three (3) to five (5) minutes a day.
